Eviction Procedures

You pay rent on time and keep your apartment clean. You have never considered the possibility of eviction. Even if you’re sure it will never happen, you should know about eviction and why it can happen. You should also know what to do if evicted.

An eviction is how a landlord legally removes a tenant from a rental unit. Landlords may evict tenants for many reasons, but they must follow certain procedures to make it legal.

Landlords can evict you if you do not pay your rent on time. They can also evict you if you or your visitors damage the property or violate other terms of the lease. If you have a month-to-month lease, the landlord can evict you after giving you a 30-day notice even if you pay your rent and did not violate the lease.
