Northland Housing Resources is a collaborative effort among organizations, formed to promote and help in providing decent, safe and affordable housing to individuals and families in the Northland.

Northland Neighborhoods, Inc.

Northland Neighborhoods, Inc. (NNI) is a nonprofit community development corporation set up in June, 1996. They help residents find the information and support programs they need. NNI provides the tools and leadership to empower neighborhoods, community leaders and businesses make positive changes.

NNI aids in organizing neighborhoods and supports neighborhood planning and revitalization. They organize community service projects to benefit residents, including the elderly or handicapped.

The City of Kansas City, Missouri chose NNI to help residents who meet certain guidelines apply for weatherization, minor home repair, barrier removal and paint grants.

Mid-America Regional Council

The Mid-America Regional Council, commonly referred to as MARC, serves the association of city and county governments and the metropolitan planning organization for the bistate Kansas City region.

MARC helps build a stronger regional community through cooperation, leadership and planning. Through their leadership, area jurisdictions and diverse community interests sit down together to address the region's problems and identify the opportunities for cooperative solutions. These efforts, in turn, strengthen the effectiveness of local government.

The Kansas City Design Center grew out of the Regents Center for Architectural Studies, a joint initiative between the architecture programs at KU and KSU set up in 1988.

In 1992, the Kansas City Center for Design Education and Research was established to coordinate and promote undergraduate and graduate professional education, conduct urban related design research, provide professional development and public education programs, and conduct community-wide public service activities. The organization simplified their name to Kansas City Design Center in 1994.

In June 2003, the KCDC incorporated as a Missouri not-for-profit. The Internal Revenue Service has since certified them as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

The program is fully accredited and offers courses leading to the degree, Master of Urban Planning. Each faculty member in the program teaches classes, conducts research, and provides service within various areas of planning, including land use, housing, community development, environmental planning, and transportation. This work stresses policy planning and analysis within the context of urban or urbanizing environments.

The program seeks to expand the knowledge base in planning by sponsoring research in the field and having this research disseminated widely. The research can be either theoretical or applied. It is part of the mission of the university and the program to serve the needs of the state and the Kansas City metropolitan area, whether in research, teaching or service.
