Development of Affordable Housing

The need for affordable housing is great.  Nationwide, more than 12 million households pay more than 50 percent of income for housing.  And, housing costs continue to rise faster than incomes among most low-income households.

Production of new affordable housing  continues to fall far short of meeting the demand.  Significant increases in construction material costs, shrinking government subsidies, thin profit margins, land use and regulatory constraints and other barriers make development of affordable housing increasingly difficult.

This gap between supply and demand of affordable housing is has created a housing crisis for working class people.
