Funding Affordable Housing Development

Affordable housing production is falling further behind the nation’s demand. The need for affordable housing among working class households is increasing while the supply of available units has decreased over the past few years.

Development of affordable housing is not for the fainthearted.  In areas of greatest need for  affordable housing, developers usually face costly and time-consuming barriers.  And, most affordable housing projects need multiple funding sources to be successful.  Most affordable housing projects involve more planning and entail greater risks than similar market-rate projects because of layered financing and the complexities of local land use requirements.
